On anomalous optical beam shifts at near-normal incidence

چکیده
We develop the theory of optical beam shifts (both Goos–Hänchen and Imbert–Fedorov) for case near-normal incidence, when incident angle becomes comparable with angular divergence. The developed uncovers unified origin anomalous shift enhancement via geometric Berry phase singularity. Particularly, we predict large occurring small incidence angles. also propose a simple experimental scheme involving quarter-wave q-plate that allows us to observe giant transverse longitudinal, spatial simultaneously. Finally, analyze relevant parameters, polarization structure, intensity profiles shifted transmitted beam. Our results can find applications in spin–orbit photonics, optics, sensing applications, quantum weak measurements.

Spatial coherence and optical beam shifts.
A beam of light, reflected at a planar interface, does not follow perfectly the ray optics prediction. Diffractive corrections lead to beam shifts; the reflected beam is displaced (spatial Goos-Hänchen type shifts) and/or travels in a different direction (angular Imbert-Fedorov type shifts), as compared to geometric optics. How does the degree of spatial coherence of light influence these shift...
متن کاملRadial mode dependence of optical beam shifts.
It is known that orbital angular momentum (OAM) couples the Goos-Hänchen and Imbert-Fedorov shifts. Here, we present the first study of these shifts when the OAM-endowed LG(ℓ,p) beams have higher-order radial mode index (p>0). We show theoretically and experimentally that the angular shifts are enhanced by p while the positional shifts are not.

We show how careful control of the incident polarization of a light beam close to the Brewster angle gives a giant transverse spatial shift on reflection. This resolves the long-standing puzzle of why such beam shifts transverse to the incident plane (Imbert-Fedorov shifts) tend to be an order of magnitude smaller than the related Goos-Hänchen shifts in the longitudinal direction, which are lar...

We report near-field optical beam induced current ~NOBIC! measurements on semiconductor quantum well ~QW! structures. A subwavelength fiber tip is coupled with a tunable laser source and scanned over a sample surface. The induced photocurrent reveals the compositional profile of quantum structures. Semiconductor QW structures were designed and fabricated by molecular beam epitaxy ~MBE! to study...
متن کاملThe analogy between optical beam shifts and quantum weak measurements
We describe how the notion of optical beam shifts (including the spatial and angular Goos–Hänchen shift and Imbert–Federov shift) can be understood as a classical analogue of a quantum measurement of the polarization state of a paraxial beam by its transverse amplitude distribution. Under this scheme, complex quantum weak values are interpreted as spatial and angular shifts of polarized scalar ...
